About
Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) sca.org
The SCA is a Middle Ages and Renaissance living history and
education group covering from the fall of the Roman Empire to
roughly 1600. It was founded in the 1960's in California, and
has spread to cover much of the world, which is broken into
kingdoms. Our governing structure is based on the feudal system
in Europe, with presiding royalty who win the right to rule by
right of arms (through competition in tournaments).
Kingdom of the West www.westkingdom.org
The West Kingdom, or Kingdom of the West, covers Northern
California, Nevada, Alaska and the Far West (Japan and a few
other areas in the Orient). It is the oldest of the kingdoms. A
Kingdom is ruled by a King and Queen who win a Crown
tournament. West Kingdom has three reigns per year.
Principality of Oertha oertha.westkingdom.org
The Principality of Oertha (pronounced Oh-ur-tha) is the division
of the West Kingdom that covers all of Alaska. A Principality is
ruled by a Prince ad Princess, also chosen by right of arms. Our
Coronet tournaments happen in January and July, and the
winners step up the day after the tournament, which is unique to
Oertha.
Shire of Earngyld earngyld.org
The Shire of Earngyld (pronounced Earn-guild or Erin-guild)
covers all of Southeast Alaska, from Yakutat/Icy Bay south to the
Canadian border. Shires don't have presiding royalty of their
own, so they are ruled in essence by the populace, or the
people who live there. Residents of Earngyld are invited to join
us for business meetings in Juneau on the second Tuesday in
January, April, July and October, and to share opinions by email
or phone. (We are working on a way for Earngyld members
outside of Juneau to participate in business meetings by video
access.) Earngyld also keeps a yahoogroup to keep everyone up
to date on events and news. To join, send an email to
Earngyld-subscribe at yahoogroups dot com.
